In this 1 hour class, Caroline Tran explores the creative decisions behind compelling portraiture, from formal headshots to lifestyle images

What makes one angle flattering and another fall flat? How does lens choice change the way a face or body appears? And how do you create portraits that feel polished without feeling stiff?

In this one hour class, photographer Caroline Tran explores the creative decisions behind compelling portraiture, from formal headshots to relaxed lifestyle images.

We’ll look at how angles, perspective, lens choice, composition, and framing influence the way we photograph people, moving from close up portraits through full body imagery. Caroline will also share her approach to balancing flattering portraiture with movement, personality, and visual interest.

Topics include:

• Choosing flattering camera angles and perspectives
• Understanding how focal length affects the face and body
• Composing close up, headshot, three quarter, and full body portraits
• Approaching formal versus lifestyle portraiture
• Creating portraits that feel natural, confident, and dynamic
• Making more intentional creative choices behind the camera

Designed to be approachable and practical, this session will give you a stronger framework for understanding why certain portraits work and how to make more purposeful decisions when photographing people.
