Today’s editorial and commercial fashion photography is shot outside the studio, in visually interesting locations, with charismatic actors or dancers bringing the energy, and with strobe lighting creating the drama necessary for the appropriate mood.
Join us Sunday, October 26, from noon until 6 PM, in a downtown LA alley known for its street art.
This will be a unique hands-on shooting workshop to raise your location-lighting and model-directing skills to the next level. We’ll set up 4 different locations to give you unique opportunities to create dramatic new images for your social media.
You will create professional-quality images, with several young dancers as models, using battery-powered Profoto strobe-lighting equipment. Using large soft boxes on the strobes to create beautiful light and focus attention on the dancer, you’ll separate and highlight her in the colorful environment.
You will learn to control the quality of the light, balance it with the ambient light, and make images where the strobe lighting creates a style and evokes emotion! We will also address how to direct the model and how to collaborate with her in creating a story.
Our location workshops are challenging, but we take the time to train you before the start of your shoot, as well as limit participation to only 12 students, to ensure individual support.
Included are two Zoom sessions: one before, on Thursday, October 23 at 7 PM, to explain the concepts and techniques, and one after, on Monday, October 27 at 7 PM, to address editing and delivering the images.
A week after the event, you’ll send us your best images to share with the dancers, as well as post them to a class web page, and you’ll receive individual feedback.
Don’t delay registering for this workshop, as all our “Lighting On Location” workshops always fill.
*Exact workshop location will be shared with all participants and discussed in our preliminary Zoom call on Thursday, October 23rd.
Workshop Schedule:
Zoom Lecture: Thursday, October 23 @7pm
Hands-On Workshop: Sunday, October 26 @12pm-6pm
Zoom Review Session: Monday, October 27 @7pm
**All our dancers will be young teens – we will have releases from the parents, for display on your social media, website, and portfolio – no stock or third-party licensing is allowed for these images. The usage of these images is governed by California and Federal Laws.
