George Simian – 1pm – “Backlighting with Strobe” Placing the strobe behind the dancer creates a strong rim of light that outlines the figure, separates it from the background, and directs attention to the shape and position of the body rather than surface detail. Because dance involves fast, continuous movement, a strobe with a short flash duration is essential to produce a fully sharp image. A dancer will perform and be photographed throughout, with immediate on-screen review of every frame so that the effect of each lighting decision is visible in real time. The process will be built up methodically, with variations in position, power, angle, and color explored along the way.
