Real Estate
This workshop will teach you the specific knowledge and experience you need for real estate photography.

Have you ever tried to take a picture of a room, a building, or a house, and wondered why your picture doesn’t look like the ones in professional brochures? Or perhaps you like architecture, and want something you see to really stand out in a picture.

Real estate photography isn’t difficult, but it does require specific knowledge and experience. That includes both how to take photos of a property, as well as how to process the photos. Join us as we go over in detail how to overcome the challenges you’ll face taking pictures of real estate, including deciding when and under what conditions to shoot, what lenses to use, and camera settings.

You will also learn the optimal method of shooting, additional equipment, lighting for your shots, and the best angles for your shots.

In addition, we’ll also go over how to process a photo. This will include topics such as using the transform features in Lightroom and Photoshop; how to compensate for distortion in lenses; how to use HDR for greater dynamic range; how to remove distracting objects; how to add sky replacements; how to re-light or adjust lighting in Lightroom or Photoshop; and how to add finishing touches to make a photo stand out.

Finally, we’ll also review the best workflow for projects, from planning and gathering equipment for a location, to shooting and post-processing, and delivery of a final set of images.

By the time you complete the course, you should have a work approach for shooting real estate for paid clients, or for shooting architecture and properties for your own art or enjoyment.

Instructor Bio:

Ming has been shooting professionally for over 30 years. Ming started shooting in high school with a small Minolta camera, in the days long before digital, autofocus, and screen previews, when you had to manually focus, estimate exposure, and develop film at a drive-through called Fotomat. In the mid-1990s, Ming started shooting headshots and portraits professionally.

Not long after, he entered the digital age, shooting both photos and video on the latest digital cameras. As an actor and fan of visual media, he developed his artistic sensibility by watching every film he could, by learning lighting and shot composition on film sets, and by applying his lessons to shooting in the field.

And as an actor, Ming especially likes capturing personalities, always looking for what makes people unique. By the mid-2000s, Ming was shooting photos and directing local videos for major clients such as Walmart, Green Dot, Bain & Co., and LA-18 TV.

Today, Ming shoots a wide variety of subjects, including headshots, portraits, fashion, street, architecture, real estate, landscapes, Milky Way, night/neon, and light painting. Ming is inspired to capture unique personalities, life’s special moments, and nature’s amazing offerings. Ming shoots primarily with Canon and Sony, but has also had experience with Nikon, Fuji, Minolta, and Panasonic video cameras. Ming also teaches for Digital Photo Academy and the California Center for Digital Arts.
