Your negatives are irreplaceable! Learn how to capture, store, protect, and archive your negatives for decades.

Workshop Overview

This hands-on workshop teaches photographers how to digitize their film negatives at home using dedicated negative capture systems; specifically the Valoi Easy35 / 120 kit and Negative Supply platforms. Students will learn how to set up a proper capture station, photograph both 35mm and 120 medium format negatives with precision, and process those captures into finished images using Lightroom Classic/Lightroom and Capture One.

No prior film photography experience is required. Whether you’ve been shooting film for years or just received your first developed roll, this class will give you a complete, professional-grade workflow for getting the most out of your negatives.

Your negatives are irreplaceable; digital scans can always be remade, but your negatives cannot. You will learn not only how to capture them beautifully, but how to store, protect, and archive them for decades to come.

By the end of this workshop, students will be able to:

• Set up a Valoi Easy35/120 or Negative Supply capture station correctly

• Handle and position 35mm and 120 medium format negatives safely and accurately

• Configure camera settings (exposure, focus, white balance) for optimal negative capture

• Invert and process film captures in both Lightroom Classic/Lightroom and Capture One

• Apply basic color correction and tonal adjustments to film scans

• Use Negative Lab Pro (Lightroom plugin) for streamlined inversion and color grading

• Build a consistent file naming, folder structure, and backup system for negatives and scans.

This workshop is designed for:

• Film photographers who want full control over their scans without relying on a lab

• Photographers with a backlog of developed negatives they haven’t digitized yet

• Digital photographers exploring hybrid analog/digital workflows

• Anyone frustrated with inconsistent or low-resolution lab scans

What to Bring:

  • Negatives – bring at least one developed roll of 35mm or 120 film to practice with. Undeveloped fill will not work.
  • Camera – a mirrorless or DSLR camera capable of manual mode is ideal.
  • Laptop – bring your own laptop with Lightroom of Capture one installed (trial versions are acceptable).
  • Negative Lab Pro: Optional but recommended. Install the free trial of Negative Lab Pro (Lightroom plugin) before class.

Note: Class equipment including Valoi, Negative Supply and lights will be available for hands-on use. Students do not need to own this gear to participate.
