Watch real-world examples of both lighting styles in action as Ian breaks down the key advantages and limitations of each.  Whether you are just starting out or refining your craft\, you’ll walk away with a clearer understanding of which lighting approach best fits your style\, workflow and creative vision. \nPhoto Credit: Ian Spanier \nGeorge Simian – 1pm – “Backlighting with Strobe” Placing the strobe behind the dancer creates a strong rim of light that outlines the figure\, separates it from the background\, and directs attention to the shape and position of the body rather than surface detail. Because dance involves fast\, continuous movement\, a strobe with a short flash duration is essential to produce a fully sharp image. A dancer will perform and be photographed throughout\, with immediate on-screen review of every frame so that the effect of each lighting decision is visible in real time. The process will be built up methodically\, with variations in position\, power\, angle\, and color explored along the way. \nPhoto Credit: George Simian \nRory Lewis – 3pm – Mastering Portrait Lighting: One\, Two & Three Light Setups.  In association with Godox \nJoin Rory Lewis for a focused\, hands-on workshop exploring the foundations of cinematic portrait lighting. Learn how to create striking\, professional images using simple one-light setups\, then build confidently into two and three light configurationsWorking with industry-leading Godox equipment\, Rory will demonstrate how to shape light\, control contrast\, and direct your subject to achieve powerful\, character-driven portraits. A practical\, no-nonsense session designed to elevate your lighting quickly and effectively. \nPhoto Credit: Rory Lewis \nCome explore\, create\, connect\, and experience lighting in action. SUMMARY:Introduction to Real Estate Photography with Ming Lo- Los Angeles
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will teach you the specific knowledge and experience you need for real estate photography.\n\n\nHave you ever tried to take a picture of a room\, a building\, or a house\, and wondered why your picture doesn’t look like the ones in professional brochures? Or perhaps you like architecture\, and want something you see to really stand out in a picture. \nReal estate photography isn’t difficult\, but it does require specific knowledge and experience. That includes both how to take photos of a property\, as well as how to process the photos. Join us as we go over in detail how to overcome the challenges you’ll face taking pictures of real estate\, including deciding when and under what conditions to shoot\, what lenses to use\, and camera settings. \nYou will also learn the optimal method of shooting\, additional equipment\, lighting for your shots\, and the best angles for your shots. \nIn addition\, we’ll also go over how to process a photo. This will include topics such as using the transform features in Lightroom and Photoshop; how to compensate for distortion in lenses; how to use HDR for greater dynamic range; how to remove distracting objects; how to add sky replacements; how to re-light or adjust lighting in Lightroom or Photoshop; and how to add finishing touches to make a photo stand out. \nFinally\, we’ll also review the best workflow for projects\, from planning and gathering equipment for a location\, to shooting and post-processing\, and delivery of a final set of images. \nBy the time you complete the course\, you should have a work approach for shooting real estate for paid clients\, or for shooting architecture and properties for your own art or enjoyment. \n***What to Bring: \nDSLR or Mirrorless Camera \nWide Angle Lens \nTripod \nBatteries\, Memory Cards \nLaptop with Lightroom and Photoshop (or attendees can watch and take notes) \nInstructor Bio: \nMing has been shooting professionally for over 30 years. Ming started shooting in high school with a small Minolta camera\, in the days long before digital\, autofocus\, and screen previews\, when you had to manually focus\, estimate exposure\, and develop film at a drive-through called Fotomat. In the mid-1990s\, Ming started shooting headshots and portraits professionally. \nNot long after\, he entered the digital age\, shooting both photos and video on the latest digital cameras. As an actor and fan of visual media\, he developed his artistic sensibility by watching every film he could\, by learning lighting and shot composition on film sets\, and by applying his lessons to shooting in the field. \nAnd as an actor\, Ming especially likes capturing personalities\, always looking for what makes people unique. By the mid-2000s\, Ming was shooting photos and directing local videos for major clients such as Walmart\, Green Dot\, Bain & Co.\, and LA-18 TV. \nToday\, Ming shoots a wide variety of subjects\, including headshots\, portraits\, fashion\, street\, architecture\, real estate\, landscapes\, Milky Way\, night/neon\, and light painting. Ming is inspired to capture unique personalities\, life’s special moments\, and nature’s amazing offerings. Ming shoots primarily with Canon and Sony\, but has also had experience with Nikon\, Fuji\, Minolta\, and Panasonic video cameras. Ming also teaches for Digital Photo Academy and the California Center for Digital Arts. \nCancellation Policy: Refund requests must be made in writing at least 7 days prior to the event. SUMMARY:Introduction to Real Estate Photography with Ming Lo- Santa Ana
\n***What to Bring: \nDSLR or Mirrorless Camera \nWide Angle Lens \nBatteries\, Memory Cards \nLaptop with Lightroom and Photoshop (or attendees can watch and take notes) \nInstructor Bio: \nMing has been shooting professionally for over 30 years. SUMMARY:Shooting and Editing Video\, Hands On Quick Start with Ming Lo - Santa Ana
DESCRIPTION:Hands-on quick start to the basics of shooting and editing video.\n\n\nWant to start creating videos but not sure where to begin? This hands-on beginner class is designed to get you shooting with confidence by focusing on the essential skills you actually need to start shooting and editing right away. You’ll learn how to develop a simple concept\, think through your message\, and plan your shoot with the final video in mind. Understanding your goal from the start will help you make better creative and technical decisions throughout the process. \nNext\, we’ll cover the core camera and production basics you’ll use every time you shoot. This includes understanding your camera settings\, focus\, framing\, lighting considerations\, and capturing clean audio. We’ll also discuss how to prepare for a shoot\, including location scouting and what to look for before you start filming. \nFrom there\, we’ll move into the shooting process itself. You’ll learn about different shot types\, how to capture footage that tells a story\, when and why to shoot B-roll\, and how to work with on-camera talent. This section is designed to help you feel more comfortable and intentional behind the camera. \nFinally\, the class will wrap up with an introduction to editing basics\, so you can begin putting your footage together into a finished piece. We’ll go over the essentials of structuring a sequence\, building a beginning and ending\, using transitions\, and preparing your final video for output. \nThroughout the workshop\, students will learn through a combination of instruction and hands-on practice\, making it easier to apply concepts in real time. By the end of the class\, you’ll have a strong foundation in videography and a clearer understanding of how to create compelling videos from start to finish. \nWhat To Bring \n\nCamera with standard lens (24-70mm or 50mm)\, or smartphone.\nFully Charged Battery\nMemory Card\nAudio – can use camera or smartphone audio\, or wireless microphones if you have them\nLaptop or smartphone for editing; free version of Capcut or other editor (please download before the class)\n\nInstructor Bio \nMing started shooting in high school with a small Minolta camera\, in the days long before digital\, autofocus and screen previews\, when you had to manually focus\, estimate exposure and develop film at a drive-through called Fotomat. \nIn the mid-1990s\, Ming started shooting headshots and portraits professionally. Not long after\, he entered the digital age\, shooting both photos and video on the latest digital cameras. As an actor and fan of visual media\, he developed his artistic sensibility by watching every film he could\, by learning lighting and shot composition on film sets\, and by applying his lessons to shooting in the field. By the mid-2000s\, Ming was shooting photos and directing local videos for major clients such as Bain & Co.\, Green Dot\, Wal-mart and the local Los Angeles international television station. \nToday\, Ming shoots a wide variety of subjects\, including headshots\, portraits\, fashion\, street\, architecture\, real estate\, landscapes\, Milky Way\, night / neon and light painting. Ming also shoots video for clients and for social media. Ming is inspired to capture life’s special moments as well as nature’s amazing offerings. \nMing shoots primarily with Canon and Sony equipment\, but also has experience with Nikon\, Fuji\, Minolta and Panasonic video cameras. \n\n\nBy registering for this workshop\, you are agreeing to our Terms and Conditions. SUMMARY:Preparing for Your First (or next!) Big Wildlife Safari Trip- Pasadena
DESCRIPTION:For wildlife photographers\, going on a wildlife safari or an African photography tour\, get prepared with instructor Moses Sparks.\n\n\nFor a wildlife photographer\, going on a wildlife safari or African photography tour is an adventure that many of us dream about\, an opportunity to see and photograph exotic animals\, and capture those once-in-a-lifetime images and memories. \nFiguring out what gear you really need\, how to pack and travel with it\, and how to use it effectively in the field can be overwhelming and confusing. \nAfter all\, an African safari is very different from shooting in the humid rainforest of Costa Rica\, or working in the cold of a Yellowstone winter\, or dealing with the steaming jungles of Brazil. \nIn this class\, you will learn from a professional photographer who has traveled all over the world\, shooting wildlife and encountered the challenges we all face. \nMoses will talk about cameras and lenses\, of course\, but also how to get them to your destination safely\, what support gear is essential\, and all the tips and tricks you need to come home with amazing pictures. \nMoses will also touch on bags and packs\, tripods/monopods\, straps\, rain gear\, clothing\, insect protection\, and so much more. These are the little things that become major factors on location. \n** The classroom is located on the second floor of our store. Access to the classroom is available via stairs. There is no elevator to the second floor.** \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Moses Sparks: \nMoses has been a professional photographer based in Los Angeles for more than 30 years\, and my career arc is a little crazy. \nMoses started out as a fashion and portrait photographer\, with photo credits in Harper’s Bazaar\, Marie Claire\, Entertainment Weekly\, and Rolling Stone. He then expanded into the corporate market\, shooting annual reports\, advertising\, and executive portraits for a host of Fortune 500 companies. \nMoses then moved into photographing at major TV and motion picture studios – including NBC Universal\, Disney\, Warner Brothers\, Showtime\, Paramount\, and most recently\, Amazon Prime and Netflix. Those images have appeared regularly in trade publications like Variety\, The Hollywood Reporter\, and TV Guide. \nDuring the Covid shutdown\, Moses pivoted to doing nature and wildlife photography and began shooting projects for the National Park Service\, BBC\, and conservation groups around the world. He has been a featured photographer for Sony’s “Artisans of Imagery” podcast. \nMoses has been all around the world\, photographing some of the strangest and rarest animals to be found anywhere. Moses is currently preparing for several gallery shows. He has published his first book of wildlife photography and is currently working on a second. \n\n\n\nBy registering for this workshop\, you are agreeing to our Terms and Conditions.
