The 5-day Master Class focuses on landscape art photography with a visualization and previsualization workflow that exceed representational images to capture subjective thoughts and feelings. The workshop is small, intimate, collegial, and the instruction hands-on, with intensive field capture instruction in exceptional and well-researched National Park locations. Photographers identify and then increase their emotional range to create images filled with personal expression and finished works that are a vision beyond documentation. Students gain valuable insights into landscape thematics, mini-portfolio creation, environmental considerations, and visualization skills for landscape art compositions. Between field assignments, students learn an end to end workflow with Lightroom and Photoshop tools to help develop a personal visual voice.
Students receive 5 hours of individual online post-production training when they return home.
THE MOJAVE LANDSCAPE
Mojave National Preserve, the third largest National Park in the lower 48, is a land of desert wilderness, episodic rains, abandoned mines, and ghostly ranches. “Get Out There” in our 4-wheel drive vehicles to creatively explore 1.6 million acres of desert wilderness, roads less traveled, big skies, and the amazing ‘Mojave Light.’ Each capture session is an opportunity to visually interpret a land that is inexorably retreating into times past, one filled with solitude and peace.
CURRICULUM ASSIGNMENTS FOR MOJAVE NATIONAL PRESERVE
While we teach many of the same processes and creative approaches in all parks, each Master Class has a unique theme assignment. Master Class photographers receive proprietary assignments for each location, explore documentary, narration and navigation art approaches, and share mini portfolios of their work.
