Fashion photography has moved out of the white studio and away from stylized artificial poses, towards shooting real people in fun environments and in action. To give still images more energy, the strategy is to have the subjects in movement and the camera as a close-up participant, using wide-angle lenses – with strobe lighting to set the mood, create a style, and evoke emotion!
What makes this workshop special is a space with 7 different whimsical sets and dancers as models. An opportunity to create striking new images for your portfolios and social media!
We will provide professional strobe lighting equipment, and use different light modifiers, to create excitement and focus the attention on the dancer, to separate and highlight her, and to render a colorful environment. We’ll teach you how to balance the Main and Fill lights to achieve beautiful believable light. We will encourage you to use wide-angle lenses to explore striking perspectives and create the sense of the camera joining in the action.
We will start with a live demonstration of techniques for lighting and for directing subjects – before breaking into four small teams and starting to shoot – changing locations and models every hour, to create dozens of completely unique exciting images!
Simply bring your camera, your favorite wide-angle lens, backup batteries and memory cards – and we’ll provide the rest (education, models, strobes, modifiers, and grip)!
Included are two Zoom sessions: one before the shoot on January 19th at 7pm Pacific Time to explain the concepts and techniques and one after on January 23rd at 7pm Pacific Time to address editing and delivering of the images.
*As a condition of enrollment in this course, all students shall provide the photos they take during the workshop to our actresses/models. This allows us the keep the workshop fee low and not require students to pay an extra actress/model fee.
